Help installing VPT24-1P Timer switch

THis is what I am seeing inside my box in the wall -

  • A copper ground wire

  • A black wire
  • A red wire

on this new unit I see the following

  • green wire - I am pretty certain this connects to the copper wire in the wall
  • a black wire - which I assume connect to the black wire in the wall

A red wire - (which I would have assumed went to the red wire in the wall but I saw a youtube video where the guy said to not use this wire in a single pole install

  • I have a yellow and red wire - which I am also fairly certain I do nothing with

White mystery wire

My question is - do I connect the Red to the Red - and then just cover the White wire and have it do nothing

Or do I connect the white wire to the red wire and then put a cover on the red wire like the youtube guy did.

Thanks.

VPT24 and LED bulbs

Hi there,

I understand that the VPT24 works with CFL bulbs, will they work with LED bulbs as well?

Thanks,

Looking for timer switch that can be turned off

I need a switch/timer for my bathroom that can be:

     - manually turned on

     - manually turned off

     - if it's turned on and it NOT manually turned off then after X amount of time it will automatically shut off.

Being able to manually turn the switch off means the lights are not ALWAYS on for 5-10 minutes (or whatever the timer is set at).

I'm trying to wire up this with the corresponding VP0SR-1LZ.  The wiring diagrams match up perfectly for the Remote Switch, but the LTB60 is asking for 5 wires and I only have 4 (including the ground).  I've identified the ground, 2nd traveler and neutral wires, but I have one black wire where the instructions are calling for a Load Wire and a first traveler.  Any ideas?  Can I sure this switch.  It's replacing an older version of the  Leviton PR180 motion sensor switch.

Can I use this switch, if not, is there a time switch that can work in my set up.

LT113 question

I've bought an LT113-10W timer but I think there's something missing from the instructions?

They state that by pressing the "override" button (or the button on the remote) for several seconds I can activate a "permanent override".  The question is, how do I *cancel* such an override and return to timed operation?

Leviton Vizia+ VPT24 timer causing CFL bulbs to stop working

Hi,

I have three outdoor lights on one circuit with two switches.  One switch controls one light and the second switch controls the two other lights.  I replaced both switches with Leviton VPT24 timers.  Both timers work fine.  The single light works fine.  The two lights work for a short while and then stop lighting up.  I changed the bulbs thinking they were burnt out.  The new bulbs worked for about an hour and then also stopped working.  All three are CFL bulbs.  The two switches are not using a 3-way installation.

Can anyone tell me why the two bulbs stop working after a period of time?  It's driving me crazy!  I'd really like to use these timers but they're useless if they make the bulbs stop working.

Thanks!

LTB60 does not function properly. Fan stays on continuously

Have a three device box in the powder room.  One for light, one for outlet and one for overhead exhaust fan.  Removed the fan device and found two wires; one from hot (black) gang and one to fan.  Connected black wire to the hot (black) gang, green wire to ground gang, white wire to neutral (white) gang and red wire to wire that goes to the fan.  The green light on the bottom of the timer stays on and the fan stays on.  Timer function does not seem to work.  No way I can turn fan off unless I disconnect red wire to the fan.  Any ideas?

VPT24-1PZ, Pro Mode, Sunup/Sundown offset time.

Hi,

I installed this timer, and it's working.

I have the porch lights come on at 6 am, and off at sunrise, then on at sunset and off at 11 pm.  I like it.

My question is on what the offset setting is for?  Is it used to fine-tune your latitude/longitude? (I think so) or to turn the load off after sunrise, and before sunset? (I hope so).

What I would like to do, is have the lights stay on for an hour after sunrise, because sometimes on a rainy or cloudy day it's still quite dark when the timer says it's sunup.  Likewise, I would like to turn the lights on an hour before sunset.

The offset setting only seems to allow for a single postive or negative offset time, and I think I'd need two settings to add to one, and subtract from the other.

The programming instructions state:

"0:00" will be flashing to represent the offset time.  Choose the amount of time, if any, to turn the load ON/OFF before or after Sunup and Sundownby pressing▲to add time to the Sunup/

Sundowntime and use▼to subtract time from the Sunup/Sundown time. Press "SET"to confirm your choice (up to 3 hours and 59 minutes).

So, if I added 60 minutes, would that merely shift the sunup and sundown times ahead 60 minutes meaning the light would come on a 6am, and go off 1 hour after sunrise, but then come on an hour after sunset?

Or is this exactly the setting I want, meaning it adds or subtracts time before or after sunrise/sunset?  Have I got it backwards?  I should subtract an hour?
